Fortnite is getting a third game mode called Creative. The new mode, which leaked earlier today ahead of an expected official reveal later this week, lets players build their own sandbox play areas with unlimited resources which can then be shared with other Fortnite players on private servers.
Creative will join the massively popular PvP Battle Royale mode (which is currently the only mode available on mobile) and the PvE Save the World campaign. The new mode could debut alongside the launch of Season 7 this Thursday (Dec. 6).
Fortnite developer Epic Games has spent the past week teasing a huge announcement for The Game Awards, however, the big surprise has been spoiled a few days early thanks to a loose-lipped YouTuber.
Lachlan’s video which detailed the entire mode has since been pulled, but not before the entire internet grabbed screenshots and video mirrors (thanks, FortniteIntel). Can’t imagine he’ll be invited back to Epic HQ any time soon…
The mode itself expands seems to expand on Fortnite’s limited time Playground mode, although Creative has a far more robust set of tools for players to craft their own islands and host private matches. If you’ve ever tried out Minecraft’s creative mode, it’s basically that but for Fortnite.
Players will also apparently be able to share their creations with the rest of the Fortnite player base, with the best popping up as Featured maps which are accessible via rifts in a hub area.
New Creative Mode coming to Season 7! What is it? Well, it’s essentially your own custom Fortnite Server with Unlimited Resources, player Servers and more! For example, it’s basically a Creative Minecraft server that you can customize and build to your liking! pic.twitter.com/juKFxNB4li

It seems very unlikely that Creative will ever make its way to the mobile version of Fortnite due to memory and CPU requirements, but it’ll be interesting to see if the Featured custom maps will be playable on non-PC platforms.
We’ll have to wait for The Game Awards (also this Thursday) to find out more.
