It’s neither the Galaxy Fold 2 nor the Galaxy Bloom. Samsung’s upcoming foldable clamshell smartphone is called the Galaxy Z Flip, claims tipster Ice Universe.
Just days ago, it was reported that the new foldable phone from Samsung would be called the Galaxy Bloom. The company apparently revealed the information along with some other details about the phone at a closed-door meeting on the sidelines of CES 2020. However, Galaxy Bloom seemed like a codename more than an actual marketing name for the device.
The Galaxy Z Flip appears to be a more believable name for the phone. Why? Because just like the reimagined Moto Razr, the Samsung device is expected to fold vertically like a flip phone.
Ice Universe’s tweet revealing the new name was also accompanied by a logo for the device. The leakster later clarified that the logo (see below) was self made. However, the name still gives us some insight into Samsung’s branding plans for new smartphones.

Galaxy Z: A new series of devices?
This is not the first time we’re hearing of a Z series Samsung phone. The company used to launch Tizen-based smartphones under that name up until 2017. However, the Galaxy Z moniker is brand new, as the older series was prefixed only with the Samsung brand name (Samsung Z3, Samsung Z4, you get the drift).
It’s possible that the Galaxy Z moniker represents a new series of devices. It’s also entirely possible that this is a one-off name for the flip-open foldable phone. Then again, the leak could also be incorrect.
In other news, Ice Universe also confirmed the Galaxy S20 name through another self-made logo. It was also apparently confirmed by Samsung during that secret CES 2020 meeting we mentioned earlier.
Samsung is expected to announce the new Galaxy flagships on February 11 at its Unpacked event. Until then, we expect more such rumors and leaks to surface about the two devices.
