After completing its Android 8.0 Oreo beta for the Galaxy S8, Samsung will now be turning its attention to updating other devices—and we might know which ones. While the Galaxy Note 8 will no doubt be Samsung’s new priority, after that, reports suggest it will work on updating the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Galaxy A5 and A3 (2017), and the Galaxy Tab S3.
The news arrives via Samsung fansites SamMobile and GalaxyClub, who have jointly confirmed the plans. However, we have no clue as to when any of these rollouts will begin. Samsung is yet to deploy the final Oreo software to the Galaxy S8—though it should be happening in the coming weeks—and we haven’t heard about the Galaxy Note 8 update since its test firmware was leaked in December.
While we could be waiting for some months to see all of these updates arrive, at least we have some idea of where Samsung is headed next with its update schedule.
The websites also touched on the status of the Galaxy S6 Oreo update, stating that they have no information to indicate it’s in the works. Giving that the S6 and S6 Edge arrived in April 2015, running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, it would be odd if Samsung did upgrade it to Oreo; manufacturers tend to deliver two major Android updates to their flagships, and the S6 has already received those.
